Chanel Parker
Chanel Parker has served as the Quality of Life Coordinator for the Marion Superior Court Youth Services Center since March 21, 2005. Parker passionately supports detained youth in the center's care. She does not view her role as simply a job, but as a mission to improve the lives of at-risk residents, many of whom are people of color.
Parker is creative and resourceful in her approach. She searches for meaningful, dynamic, and impactful programs that inspire residents and help deter future involvement with the criminal justice system. She has built a strong network of community volunteers who provide regular programming for the youth. These volunteers include clergy, educators, professional athletes, barbers, artists, musicians, and ex-offenders who share their personal stories. Parker carefully selects each program and volunteer to make a lasting positive impact on residents' lives while they are at the center and after they return to their communities.
Parker's tireless work and commitment to at-risk youth are truly inspiring. She is highly respected by both staff and community partners who recognize her dedication to the residents' well-being. On Thanksgiving and Christmas, residents find Parker at the center, making sure each celebration is meaningful.
It is easy for people to overlook at-risk youth in detention, but Parker never does. These young people are always her priority. Her compassion, consistency, and unwavering dedication continue to change lives and bring hope to the children in the community who need it most.
