Draft needs are still in flux as the first wave of settles, and this post will be updated as player movement continues. This is the first-round order of the 2016 , with the top positional needs for every team as of March 10. The draft order is determined by record, and using strength of schedule as a tiebreaker (record and strength of schedule are official tiebreakers to determine the draft order).
1. Tennessee Titans
2015 record: 3-13 (.492)
Top need: Offensive tackle
Other needs: Cornerback, safety, defensive end
Top prospects at positional needs: OT: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Michigan State); CB: (Florida State), (Florida), (Clemson); Safety: (Southern Utah), (Florida), (West Virginia); RB: (Ohio State), (Alabama); DE: (Oregon), (Ohio State), (Clemson).
Analysis: The Titans look like they were able to hit with their selection of Marcus Mariota, but the best way to help him build his confidence and grow as a quarterback is to make sure he is surrounded with a balanced attack and quality tackle play to keep him protected. The Titans need a bell-cow offensive tackle in the worst way.
2. Cleveland Browns
2015 record: 3-13 (.531)
Top need: Quarterback
Other needs: Wide receiver, defensive line, inside linebacker, offensive line
Top prospects at positional needs: QB: (Cal), (Memphis), (North Dakota State); WR: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Baylor); DL: (Oregon), (Ohio State), (Alabama), (Baylor); ILB: (Alabama), (Arizona), (Oklahoma); OL: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame).
Analysis: The Browns took another swing at the franchise quarterback spot two years ago and that looks like a miss now. They must keep trying to find that guy. How do the Browns do a better job of stopping the run? Well, new talent might be nice. The departures of WR Travis Benjamin, C Alex Mack and OT Mitchell Schwartz have created a more immediate need at their positions.
3. San Diego Chargers
2015 record: 4-12 (.527)
Top need: Defensive line
Other needs: Safety, tight end, offensive line
Top prospects at positional needs: DL: (Oregon), (Ohio State), (Alabama), (Baylor); Safety: (Southern Utah), (Florida), (West Virginia); TE: (Arkansas), (Stanford), (Ohio State); OL: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Kansas State), (Michigan State).
Analysis: For years it was just Antonio Gates, maybe Vincent Jackson and then a slew of guys catching passes from Philip Rivers. Gates doesn't have much left and Ladarius Green bolted via free agency. Finding another threat at the tight end spot would make sense. Eric Weddle departed, but the Chargers added Dwight Lowery. Is that enough? They could still look to add competition at the other safety spot. The Chargers have needs along the offensive and defensive lines that deserve attention this season.
4. Dallas Cowboys
2015 record: 4-12 (.531)
Top need: Cornerback
Other needs: Quarterback, running back, defensive tackle
Top prospects at positional needs: CB: (Florida State), (Florida), (Clemson); QB: (Cal), (Memphis), (North Dakota State); RB: (Ohio State), (Alabama), (Indiana); DT: (Baylor), (Alabama), (Alabama).
Analysis: The Cowboys' offensive line is built for a rushing attack, so the Cowboys might want to go find a bell cow at that spot like they had with DeMarco Murray. Tony Romo's season-ending injury makes finding his heir apparent a much higher priority than it was when the Cowboys entered the season. Dallas did a nice job of building in the trenches on the offensive side of the ball and now they need to turn their attention to the defensive side -- specifically at defensive tackle.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
2015 record: 5-11 (.473)
Top need: Cornerback
Other needs: Center, outside linebacker, guard
Top prospects at positional needs: CB: (Florida State), (Florida), (Clemson); Center: (Alabama), (USC), (Missouri); OLB: (UCLA), (Notre Dame), (Georgia); Guard: (Kansas State), (Stanford).
Analysis: The addition of Malik Jackson combined with the return of Dante Fowler should help the pass rush, but they must add more talent and competition for those starting secondary spots. Jacksonville wants to be a better running team, and finding the right fit on the interior can go a long way in that quest.
6. Baltimore Ravens
2015 record: 5-11 (.508)
Top need: Offensive line
Other needs: Cornerback, outside linebacker, wide receiver
Top prospects at positional needs: OL: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Kansas State), (Michigan State); CB: (Florida State), (Florida), (Clemson); OLB: (UCLA), (Notre Dame), (Georgia); WR: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Baylor).
Analysis: With Antonio Brown and A.J. Green in the division, the Ravens are in desperate need of help in the defensive backfield. Terrell Suggs' injury is par for the course for aging players and adding a young pass rusher would help. We are waiting to see what Breshad Perriman can do, but more talent for Joe Flacco couldn't hurt.
7. San Francisco 49ers
2015 record: 5-11 (.539)
Top need: Quarterback
Other needs: Inside linebacker, offensive tackle, offensive guard, wide receiver
Top prospects at positional needs: QB: (Cal), (Memphis), (North Dakota State); ILB: (Alabama), (Arizona), (Oklahoma); OT: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Michigan State); Guard: (Kansas State), (Stanford); WR: (Ole Miss), (Baylor), (Notre Dame).
Analysis: The 49ers hoped that Colin Kaepernick would somehow turn it around, but he didn't. With Chip Kelly in the fold, finding a quarterback could take precedence with the first pick, but help along the offensive line must be addressed at some point as well. Kelly will target specific types of WRs to fit into his scheme, but look for Trent Baalke to do what he does best, which is find inside linebackers.
8. Philadelphia Eagles ( with Miami Dolphins)
2015 record: 7-9 (.508)
Top need: Running back
Other needs: Offensive line, pass rusher, wide receiver
Top prospects at positional needs: RB: (Ohio State), (Alabama), (Indiana); OL: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Kansas State), (Michigan State); Pass rusher: (Oregon), (Ohio State), (Georgia); WR: (Ole Miss), (Baylor), (Notre Dame).
Analysis: Chip Kelly is gone, but certainly not forgotten as the Eagles must try to clean up some of the personnel mess left behind, including finding a wide receiver. The Eagles' once-revered offensive line is in dire need of upgrades at both guard and tackle, even with the addition of RG Brandon Brooks from Houston. One of the most pressing needs is finding a reliable running back to pair with Ryan Mathews.
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2015 record: 6-10 (.484)
Top need: Cornerback
Other needs: Offensive tackle, safety, defensive end
Top prospects at positional needs: CB: (Florida State), (Florida), (Clemson); OT: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Michigan State); Safety: (Southern Utah), (Florida), (West Virginia); DE: (Oregon), (Ohio State), (Clemson).
Analysis: Tampa Bay needs to look for a young, athletic replacement for OT Gosder Cherilus and we might see that within the first three rounds. The addition of Robert Ayers will help at defensive end, but the Buccaneers could still use more competition on the other side. Cornerback and safety are both big concerns and they might need to make cornerback an early round priority this year.
10. New York Giants
2015 record: 6-10 (.500)
Top need: Linebacker
Other needs: Wide receiver, offensive line, running back, safety
Top prospects at positional needs: LB: (UCLA), (Notre Dame); WR: (Ole Miss), Tyler Boyd (Pittsburgh), (Baylor), (Notre Dame); OL: (Ole Miss), (Notre Dame), (Kansas State), (Michigan State); RB: (Ohio State), (Alabama), (Indiana); Safety: (Southern Utah), (Florida), (West Virginia).
Analysis: The Giants completely shredded their defensive end need after re-upping with Jason Pierre-Paul and adding Olivier Vernon. Finding a boss man in the middle of the linebacker corps would be nice and adding a reliable target to take some heat off of Odell Beckham makes sense, as well. Competition must be created at that position and at the safety position opposite Landon Collins. Finding a dual-threat safety who can handle himself in coverage would be preferable.
