Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one step closer toward returning to the field.
The two-time NFL Most Valuable Player of himself throwing during an indoor workout Wednesday, sharing the footage with the world via social media roughly three months after undergoing knee surgery to repair his ACL and LCL.
In the brief clip, Mahomes is wearing a compression sleeve on his left leg -- the same extremity affected by a season-ending knee injury suffered in December -- and gently drops back to pass before planting on his right foot, transferring his weight forward and swiveling his hips while calmly tossing a football. The video isn't remarkable, but represents a checkpoint cleared by Mahomes as he works his way back from the first significant injury suffered in his illustrious career.
Mahomes' injury placed him on an uncertain timetable for his return as it relates to the start of the NFL season, which the league announced Wednesday begins on Sept. 9 in Seattle.
The Chiefs will embark on their 2026 journey during that week, though they have yet to learn when exactly they'll be playing.
Mahomes will continue to work diligently toward returning, hopefully in time for Week 1. Wednesday's post suggests he's making plenty of progress.
