Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes undergoes successful surgery to repair ACL, LCL

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes underwent successful surgery to repair his torn left ACL on Monday in Dallas, the team announced.

Mahomes, who was injured during the Chiefs' loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, also had a torn LCL repaired during the procedure, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

"Patrick Mahomes successfully underwent surgery in Dallas this evening with Dr. Dan Cooper to repair the tear in his left ACL," the Chiefs statement read. "Mahomes will begin his rehab process immediately."

It's rare for a player to have such a major surgery the day after his injury is sustained, but as evidenced by Mahomes beginning his rehab immediately, the three-time Super Bowl winner and Super Bowl MVP is determined to be back on the field as soon as he can in the hopes of starting the 2026 season.

The injury to Mahomes occurred in the waning moments of Kansas City's 16-13 defeat, which ended the team's run of 10 straight playoff berths and left the once mighty dynasty with plenty of questions to answer in the coming offseason. Not the least of which will be the future of Mahomes, who has missed just four games due to injury in a career that had never seen a season ended prior to the AFC Championship Game before Sunday.

Not only did the Chiefs' playoff run conclude, but so too did Mahomes' campaign, but he's wasted no time in beginning his comeback.
