Falcons DC Jeff Ulbrich: Atlanta ready to utilize Jalon Walker's versatility in Year 2

The Falcons have big expectations for defensive end Jalon Walker in his second NFL season.

Atlanta defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich believes Walker could be in line for a bigger role in Year 2.

"I'll say this, the vision for him is so much clearer in Year 2," Ulbrich said at Georgia's pro day, via . "He's going to make huge strides this year in every way -- from a pass rush perspective, a pure end perspective. But then also we're going to start to also utilize his versatility off the ball and all the stuff he can do."

Walker during his college days at Georgia did play multiple roles for the Bulldogs' defense. In his three seasons with the Bulldogs, Walker was listed as a linebacker as he recorded 12.5 sacks and chipped in 18 tackles for loss.

Atlanta has seen a few key veteran defenders leave in free agency, but Ulbrich envisions Walker being more involved to showcase his versatility with linebacker Kaden Ellis signing with the Saints as a free agent. In 17 games, Ellis thrived in his role with the Falcons recording 107 combined tackles, 10 QB hits, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and one interception.

Walker, who's the No. 15 overall pick from the 2025 draft, was a reliable pass rusher in his rookie season next to James Pearce. Despite missing two games due to a groin injury, Walker recorded 5.5 sacks, nine QB hits, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 15 games for the Falcons.

The Falcons and Ulbrich are hoping Walker's versatility could take Atlanta's defense to another level in 2026.
