Former Texans, Bears safety Danieal Manning retires

Danieal Manning is finished with football.

The former Bears and Texans safety  on Tuesday during an interview with KILT-AM in Houston.

Manning spent nine seasons in the league after Chicago snatched him up in the second round of the 2006 . As a first-year safety under coach Lovie Smith, Manning appeared in 16 games as a rookie before earning a start in XLI.

After 56 starts with the Bears, the 32-year-old defender started 40 games for the Texans and appeared in all 16 tilts for Houston last season after breaking his leg in 2013.

Currently a free-agent, Manning generated scant interest on the open market this offseason. With just 11 career interceptions, he started 16 games in a campaign only twice at the pro level. Still, a nine-year career is something most NFL players can only dream of.
