Patriots, Bills to play Monday night opener as NFL honors AFL teams

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- It won't take long for the New England Patriots to face T.O. in a Buffalo Bills uniform.

A good thing?

The Bills have to be happy that they will be playing in prime time to start the season. The catch? It's against the Patriots at Foxborough, writes Vic Carucci.

The NFL on Monday of the 2009 season, and the Patriots will host the Bills in a Monday night game on Sept. 14. Buffalo recently after the dangerous but mercurial receiver was cut by the Dallas Cowboys.

The game at Gillette Stadium will start at 7 p.m. and be part of a Monday night doubleheader featuring four original American Football League teams -- the Oakland Raiders will host the San Diego Chargers in the second game.

The games are part of a 50th anniversary celebration of the AFL, which started with eight teams and eventually merged with the older league to create the modern NFL.
