Raiders GM John Spytek on trading No. 1 pick: 'Teams know where they stand right now'

Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek pulled up short of confirming the club's plans with the No. 1 overall pick but made his intentions clear on Tuesday when asked about potentially trading the top selection.

"We've gotten a few calls, and those teams know where they stand right now," he told reporters, smirking, .

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza is expected to be the Raiders' pick at No. 1. It would mark the fourth straight season a QB has been selected first overall.

Spytek has been consistent throughout the offseason when asked about trade offers for the top selection, noting he's open to taking calls but never diving completely into the deep end of the discussion. In his second season at the helm, the GM noted there are fewer scenarios to play through when holding the top pick.

"A lot less energy spent on hypotheticals," he said. "We were just talking before we came down here -- there's only one team that can get the exact person that they want. And we have that option available to us this year, if we so choose."

The expectation is that Spytek and Co. will, indeed, choose. And the selection will be a quarterback coming off a championship run who will help turn around a withering program.
