The depth in the New York Giants' backfield continues to dwindle.
Coach Tom Coughlin told reporters that running back Peyton Hillis' sprained ankle was worse than originally thought.
"Looks like it'll be a little while," Coughlin said when asked when the back might return, per the .
, Coughlin seemed to intimate it was more than just a sprain but did not get specific.
Hillis was listed as No. 2 on the team's first -- which tells you all you need to know about the validity of a team's first unofficial depth chart.
Rookie Andre Williams took the first reserve snaps behind starter Rashad Jennings in and showed some good flashes. Barring injury, he will be the backup. The third-down, blocking and pass-catching roles are up for grabs.
Hillis is a No. 3 back at best. During last season's game against the Vikings, had Ìýabout the running back:Ìý"Hillis, in the open field, looks like he's carrying an ice wagon." Ouch.
Regardless of his lack of explosive ability, with Hillis out the Giants backfield is now down two runners -- with David WilsonÌý -- that it had just two weeks ago. It has not been a healthy start for Coughlin's' plan to get back to ground-and-pound.
