Kansas zoo names baby rhino after Chiefs center Creed Humphrey

The lull between the free agency frenzy and the 2026 NFL Draft has arrived. You could fill the void with shouting faces arguing over some vapid, meaningless take, or discuss baby animal names. We'll offer the latter.

The Rolling Hills Zoo in Salina, Kansas, announced Tuesday it named an infant rhinoceros Creed after Kansas City Chiefs star center Creed Humphrey.

The zoo held off naming , who was born Feb. 8, until this week. The organization said Humphrey's "strength, grit and Midwest roots made him the perfect namesake," per .

"Creed is a name that represents power, determination, and heart -- qualities we see not only in this incredible calf, but also in his namesake," Rolling Hills Zoo executive director Ryan VanZant said in a press release. "We're thrilled to celebrate this connection and share his story with our community -- especially with Chiefs Kingdom."

A second-round pick by the Chiefs in 2021, Humphrey has made four consecutive Pro Bowls and won two Super Bowls in K.C. He is widely viewed as the top center in football. The 26-year-old previously held the record for highest-paid pivot at $18 million per year, before the Raiders handed Tyler Linderbaum a $27 million-per-year pact -- but does Linderbaum have an endangered animal named him?

"When I was approached with the idea of Rolling Hills Zoo naming a new rhino calf after me, it seemed to be such a unique and amazing opportunity," Humphrey said in the release. "With white rhinos being an endangered species, to be able to visit and interact with Creed the rhino was incredible. I urge everyone to visit Rolling Hills Zoo because of their efforts in conservation and how interactive the entire zoo is."
