Eagles, TE Dallas Goedert agree to terms on one-year deal

Twice pushing back the void date on Dallas Goedert's contract has resulted in a continued partnership between the tight end and the Eagles.

Philadelphia and Goedert have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Sunday.

Goedert, who was set to become a free agent once his contract voided at the start of the league year on Wednesday, first agreed to push the void date back to Friday, then again postponed it to Monday.

By doing so, the two sides had more time for negotiations before another team could swoop in and lure away the longtime Eagle, something several teams had interest in accomplishing.

Garafolo reported that Goedert had offers elsewhere, but he was willing to work with the team to run it back another year, in doing so avoiding a $20 million dead money hit against Philadelphia's cap.

Some of the complication in working out a resolution with Goedert stemmed from Philadelphia's need to also simultaneously juggle the future of wide receiver A.J. Brown, whose name has been bandied about in trade rumors and carries a cap hit of $23.4 million into 2026. Brown's situation remains fluid in the wake of Goedert re-signing, per Rapoport and Garafolo.

A second-round pick by Philly in 2018, Goedert has contributed 409 catches for 4,676 yards and 35 touchdowns over eight seasons with the team. He was a key part of the club's run to a Super Bowl title during the 2024 season, amassing 215 yards and a touchdown on 17 receptions during those playoffs.

Though the 31-year-old has slowed down to a degree overall, he remains an invaluable part of the offense. He finished third on the team in receptions with 60 last season, together with Brown and DeVonta Smith accounting for 67.6% of Philadelphia's completions. The 60 catches marked a career high for Goedert, as did his 11 touchdown receptions, which more than doubled his previous best in a season.

Thus, as the Eagles seek to reinvigorate an offense that limped to 19th in scoring during their Super Bowl defense, keeping Goedert for Year 9 became pivotal, leading to two delays and finally a deal struck against the newest established deadline.

What becomes of his teammate Brown could still change over the coming months, especially when the dead money from a hypothetical Brown trade drops to $16.4 million from the current $43.4 million after June 1.

For now, though, they're together on the Eagles roster, and quarterback Jalen Hurts importantly has his safety blanket under contract for another year.
